In this role, you will lead project teams to deliver high-profile projects across Sydney from concept to completion. You will be responsible for the successful delivery of projects, achieving client and project partner satisfaction, repeat and new business. As part of XK’s leadership team, you will have opportunities to contribute to business strategy development and lead business development initiatives.

This role will be based in our new office in Sydney, CBD and is open to Australian citizens and permanent residents.


  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil or Structural Engineering
  • Membership with Engineers Australia as CPEng and NER
  • Postgraduate qualifications an advantage

Role Requirements


  • Minimum 12 years of engineering design experience within an engineering consultancy
  • Advanced understanding of structural design principles and their application to engineering design and construction
  • Advanced understanding of material behaviour, techniques and methods
  • Advanced understanding of Australian Building Codes and Standards and their practical application
  • Advanced understanding of the latest industry practices, proprietary products, materials and construction techniques, and their application
  • Experience in developing complex analysis models and preparing calculations with high precision and accuracy
  • Experience producing technical reports and developing concepts that add value to a project
  • Advanced understanding of and competence using engineering design software, such as ETABS, SAFE and Bentley Structural Enterprise software.
  • Experienced in several of the following areas of design: masonry, composite construction, post-tensioned concrete, precast concrete, pre-tension, pre-stressed concrete, reinforced concrete, structural steel, timber and cross laminated timber panel construction

Business Development:

  • Excellent business development and relationship management skills
  • Experienced in reviewing and understanding project briefs and other relevant project inputs, and experienced preparing suitable proposals/tenders
  • Able to confidently contribute to business development, for example leading client presentations, attending industry functions and preparing project proposals
  • Continually seek to find opportunities that add value to projects, people and communities
  • Manage and develop key stakeholder relationships, including clients, architects, builders, project managers, etc.
  • Actively contribute to the development and implementation of business strategy initiatives
  • Experience mentoring and contribute to the technical development of other project team members
  • Passionate about developing and fostering high-performing & engaged project teams

Project Delivery:

  • Excellent project management ability, with a good understanding of project management principles and ability to apply across concurrent and complex projects
  • Experience leading project teams to deliver high-quality results from proposal through to project completion, providing excellent technical guidance and support
  • Experience managing projects, including across resource, financial and risk aspects
  • Experienced identifying and developing multiple sustainable, innovative and client-focused solutions that meet project objectives and statutory requirements
  • Efficient and effective in managing project changes with solution-oriented attitude
  • Passionate about and takes ownership over ensuring all deliverables meet client brief and project objectives
  • Able to carry out peer reviews of other consultants’ design and documentation
  • Highly experienced in organising, drafting, and coordinating technical documents
  • Proactively manage project performance and progress to achieve project objectives
