New load limits introduced to three old concrete bridges posed a significant challenge for the Upper Lachlan Shire Council and Community, with what appeared to require the costly and interruptive replacement of all three bridges. However, by thinking outside the box and embracing human-centred design, our project team developed a unique, innovative and sustainable solution.  Through augmentation and strengthening of the existing bridges we were able to minimise waste, reduce costs, and with little to no impact on the flow of traffic, offer a solution that met structural adequacy requirements and the needs of the community
